According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, a number of roster moves are being discussed as part of a broader refresh for the blue brand. Jacy Jayne and Rey Mysterio are among the names that have come up in those conversations. The SmackDown theme song, set design, and logo are all expected to remain unchanged as part of any update, suggesting the refresh is focused primarily on the talent side of the equation rather than any cosmetic overhaul of the broadcast.
The timing of the discussions makes sense given where WWE finds itself in the calendar. WrestleMania 42 weekend traditionally serves as the natural reset point for the company’s television product, with the post-WrestleMania period historically being when roster shakeups, brand changes, and character pivots are introduced. The Raw after WrestleMania 42 already saw movement, with Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu for the World Title being set up. SmackDown, appearing to be next in line for its own refresh, fits the pattern.
Jayne has been one of the more talked-about NXT call-up candidates in recent weeks. Dave Meltzer reported ahead of WrestleMania 42 that she was among the names heavily discussed for main roster elevation alongside Ethan Page, Ricky Saints, and Blake Monroe. Jayne had an emotional farewell at an NXT taping prior to WrestleMania weekend, which further fueled speculation that her time on the developmental brand was coming to a close. A SmackDown landing spot would give her a significant platform to build on the momentum she has developed in NXT.
Mysterio’s potential SmackDown placement would represent something of a homecoming for him, who has called the blue brand home for stretches of his WWE career. He most recently competed at WrestleMania 42 night two in the Intercontinental Championship ladder match, where Penta retained the title in a match that also included Je’Von Evans, Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, Rusev, and Mysterio himself.
The broader SmackDown roster picture heading out of WrestleMania 42 has several open threads worth watching. Rhea Ripley is the new WWE Women’s Champion following her victory over Jade Cargill on night two, and her first challenger has yet to be established. The Undisputed WWE Championship picture on the men’s side also remains unsettled, with Cody Rhodes in concussion protocol following his main event against Randy Orton and the post-WrestleMania angle clearly setting up a continuation of their rivalry.
