WWE Star Facing A Potentially Serious Injury

There is worrying news regarding El Hijo del Vikingo, as a new backstage update suggests the AAA star’s injury could be a serious one.

This past Tuesday, on the June 30 episode of NXT, Vikingo was scheduled to defend the AAA Latin American Championship against EK Prosper. However, the match was scrapped after Vikingo suffered an injury during rehearsals. To explain the cancellation on television, WWE shot an angle in which Keanu Carver laid Vikingo out backstage.

A follow-up report revealed that the injury was to Vikingo’s knee, with WWE awaiting MRI results to determine its severity. Now, an update from Wrestling Observer Radio has offered a discouraging outlook.

Dave Meltzer indicated the situation may be worse than hoped. “I heard, by the way, this weekend, it could be serious,” Meltzer said. Bryan Alvarez echoed that concern, adding, “Yeah, it doesn’t sound good.”

Despite being written off during Tuesday’s NXT, Vikingo did appear on the following Friday’s July 3 episode of SmackDown, though that show had been taped on June 29 in Atlantic City, prior to the injury.

In the match, Vikingo came up short against Rey Fenix in a challenge for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, but the bout served as an impressive WWE main roster debut for the 29-year-old, who is reportedly signed to a WWE contract, unlike many others on the AAA roster.
