WWE Trademarks Roman Reigns’ Nickname, Jacob Fatu’s Moniker And John Cena’ Catchphrase Ahead Of Backlash

WWE has filed a series of new trademarks covering nicknames and catchphrases connected to three of the night’s biggest Backlash participants, as well as a tournament name that could signal a return for an NXT concept.

On May 8, WWE filed to trademark Head of the Table, the long-associated Roman Reigns nickname, covering clothing including tops, shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies, coats, pants, shorts, footwear, headwear, bandanas, and Halloween and masquerade costumes.

WWE also filed to trademark Samoan Werewolf, a nickname associated with Jacob Fatu, covering entertainment services including wrestling exhibitions and performances rendered through broadcast media, television, radio, and online service, as well as fan club services, online newsletters, and blogs in the field of sports entertainment.

A third filing covers John Cena’s Earn the Day catchphrase, with a description covering the same clothing and merchandise categories as the Head of the Table filing, including the notable addition of championship trophy belts.

The Earn the Day trademark is of particular interest given Cena’s teased Backlash announcement, which WrestleVotes Radio linked to the upcoming Club WWE launch. Whether Earn the Day is connected to that initiative or represents standalone branding for Cena’s post-retirement phase remains to be seen.

WWE also filed to trademark NXT Global Heritage Invitational, the name of the 2023 tournament that determined the number one contender for Noam Dar’s Heritage Cup Championship. The filing could be for archival purposes, but its timing alongside Noam Dar’s recent return from a lengthy injury absence that caused him to vacate the Heritage Cup title raises the possibility of a planned tournament revival on NXT.
