Drew McIntyre has landed another Hollywood role. The Scottish Warrior has joined the cast of The Last Druid, an action movie led by Russell Crowe that is already filming in Spain.
Per Deadline, McIntyre is joining the film alongside fellow new additions Stacy Clausen, Spanish actor Pablo Derqui, and Tennyson Crowe, Russell Crowe’s son, in his second acting role. They join a cast that already includes Crowe, Rose Leslie, Andreas Pietschmann, and Daniel Zovatto.
Directed by William Eubank, The Last Druid sees Crowe do battle with the Roman Empire once again, a quarter century on from Gladiator. The story follows a Roman Emperor who discovers a secluded Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia, with Crowe playing a peaceful Celtic elder who is forced to take up arms to protect his family and people from annihilation. McIntyre’s role has not been announced.
The film is the latest screen project for McIntyre, who has been building an acting resume in recent years. He is also part of Amazon MGM’s Highlander reboot, the Chad Stahelski-directed film in which he plays Angus MacLeod, the brother of Henry Cavill’s Connor MacLeod. That project reunited him with Russell Crowe, who also appears in Highlander, as well as his The Killer’s Game co-star Dave Bautista. The Last Druid now marks a second collaboration with Crowe.
McIntyre has long been open about wanting to pursue acting while remaining an active in-ring performer, though his expanding film slate has kept him off WWE television of late. His most recent appearance came at WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match. Fatu went on to target Roman Reigns and the World Heavyweight Championship, while McIntyre stepped away to focus on his Hollywood work.
