Kickoff Show

The Hardy Boyz and Jason Jordan vs. The Miz and The Miztourage
This was the first match on the Kickoff show. They got started a few minutes before 5:30 pm eastern time so that meant that fans were still filing in so they dimmed the lights to hide the empty seats. The Miz and The Miztourage got the win after Miz hit the skull-crushing finale. Jordan had the match won but he didn’t realize that Miz made the tag. Miz now holds a victory over Jordan. Clearly, this is the start of a program that will lead to a singles match between them.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Akira Tozawa (Champion) vs. Neville

Neville regained the title after hitting the Red Arrow.  Titus O’Neil was not happy.

After the match, Elias sang a song in the ring. He ripped on New York while the fans booed. The lights went out and it looked like it was the end of the segment but he decided to sing another song. He said that Brooklyn is full of hipsters and asked when did they all lose their balls. That song got over with the crowd.

Carmella and James Ellsworth joined the Kickoff Show panel. Of course, she teased cashing in later tonight.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship
The New Day (Champions) vs. The Usos

Xavier Woods and Big E wrestled and Kofi Kingston watched from ringside. These two teams always have great matches and tonight was no exception. Fans were hot for the match and there was a loud “this is awesome chant.” After several near falls, the match ended when Big E hit a nasty looking spear on Jimmy through the ropes. Big E brought him back in the ring but Jey got back in and The Usos hit superkicks followed by stereo splashes off the top rope. That was enough to get the win. The Usos are the new Smackdown Tag Team Champions. Awesome match.

They aired a KFC commercial with several WWE Superstars in costume claiming to be the Colonel. Then Shawn Michaels music played and yes, HBK came out to the ring dressed as the Colonel.

Paul Heyman cut a backstage promo and promised that his client Brock Lesnar would leave as champion but Braun Strowman interrupted him. Heyman backed off and they cut away and back to the Kickoff panel.

Main Card

John Cena vs. Baron Corbin

John Cena defeated Baron Corbin after hitting the Attitude Adjustment. Corbin did get some close near falls but his temper seemed to hurt his chances. The announcers kept talking about how Corbin blew his MITB opportunity and how he was not able to keep his attitude and temper in check. This win ends Cena’s 6-match losing streak on PPV. After the match, Cena hugged several people at ringside including comedian Jeffrey Ross, Dana Warrior’s daughter, and Betty Skaaland.

Smackdown Women’s Championship
Naomi (Champion) vs. Natalya

They showed Carmella and James Ellsworth watching this match backstage but she never came out to cash in. Natalya got the win after blocking Naomi’s split legged moonsault when she put her knees up. Natalya then locked her in the sharpshooter and that was the end of the match. New champ crowned.

Enzo Amore suspended in a shark cage
Big Show vs. Big Cass

Despite his issues outside of the ring, Enzo Amore is still over with the fans. He cut a promo before the match started and declared himself the Al Capone of the microphone. He went a little long on the promo but thankfully he was interrupted when Big Cass’ music played.  Big Show favored his “injured” taped right hand throughout the match. Enzo was yelling at Cass from inside the cage and it was getting annoying because he was yelling throughout the match. There was nothing special about this match but later in the match, Enzo stripped down to his boxers and oiled himself up and then squeezed through the shark cage bars. Cass nailed him with a big boot to the face and then turned his focus back to Big Show. Cass hit two boots to Big Show’s face and the Empire Elbow and that was enough for him to get the pinfall.

Backstage segment with Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan. They each think that their respective brand’s title matches will steal the show tonight.

Randy Orton vs. Rusev

Rusev jumped Randy Orton while Orton was posing on the top turnbuckle while his entrance music was playing. This happened before the match was officially started. Of course, as always is the case when something like this happens, the referee checked with Orton and then decided to start the match. The bell rung and Rusev charged at Orton but missed and Orton hit an RKO and then pinned him. Officially, that was probably a 10-second match.

Raw Women’s Championship
Alexa Bliss (Champion) vs. Sasha Banks

Before the match, Bayley hugged Sasha backstage and wished her luck. The Brooklyn crowd loudly booed Bayley when she was shown on the screen. The story of the match was that Bliss kept working on Banks’ “injured” shoulder but Banks pulled it out and won with the Banks Statement. This was a change from their original plans because when Bliss was originally supposed to retain but that was before the match was changed due to Bayley’s injury.

They aired the same KFC segment that aired during the Kickoff show.

“The Demon” Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt

Balor got a really awesome looking entrance for the return of his Demon character. It was a pretty good match. Wyatt tried his usual mind games but they didn’t work against The Demon. Balor hit the Coup de Grace and got the pin.

They aired commercials for Total Bellas and the Mae Young Classic.

Raw Tag Team Championship
Sheamus and Cesaro (Champions) vs. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins

There was a really funny spot in the match when Cesaro went into the crowd. He grabbed a beach ball and ripped it up to a massive pop from the crowd. Great finish and Ambros got the pin on Sheamus with Dirty Deeds to capture the Raw Tag Team titles.

United States Championship – Special Referee: Shane McMahon
AJ Styles (Champion) vs. Kevin Owens

McMahon had to pull Owens off of AJ because they fought before the bell rang. There were tons of false finishes, ref bumps, and arguments. Each man got in McMahon’s face at different points during the match but Styles ultimately retained with the Styles Clash. Click here for more details on what happened during this match.

WWE Championship
Jinder Mahal (Champion) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Mahal retained the title with help from The Singh Brothers. Nakamura fought them off but Mahal locked in the Kahalas finisher and then pinned him. This could be the beginning of their program and I would not be surprised if they do a rematch at the next pay-per-view. Click here for more details on what happened during this match.

Universal Championship – Fatal 4-Way
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman will leave WWE if Lesnar loses
Brock Lesnar (Champion) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman

This was a brutal match full of car crash-type spots outside of the ring. At one point, Strowman took out everyone and did a running powerbomb on Lesnar through two tables before tipping the third announcers table on him. Lesnar was taken away on a stretcher but returned. The end of the match was Lesnar countering a spear attempt from Reign and hitting him with an F5 and then pinning him. Click here for more details on what happened during this match.
