One of the talking points amongst fans after this week’s episode of Monday Night was the Raw Women’s Championship match that headlined the show. The announcers hyped the match throughout the show and made sure to point out that Banks always lost during her first title defense.
About one week before the match, Banks was interviewed by Sam Roberts. The interview, conducted at Caroline’s Comedy Club during SummerSlam weekend, was very candid. Banks said that she thought that she would have a longer storyline with Alexa Bliss after July’s Great Balls Of Fire show but plans changed. Ultimately, due to Bayley’s injury, the storyline continued at SummerSlam.
Banks said that she thought that she would have a longer storyline with Alexa Bliss after July’s Great Balls Of Fire show but plans changed. Ultimately, due to Bayley’s injury, the storyline continued at SummerSlam. She also said that she has no clue what she is doing when she gets to Raw because things seem to go week to week and sometimes storylines get dropped for no reason. She noted that in NXT they would have things mapped out ahead of time.
“I’m a 3-time Raw women’s champion, right? Which is awesome. Within a whole year, I was the 3-time women’s champion which, to me, is a lot. But I’m a 3-time 2-week holder of a championship so that took a way my confidence so much because I thought ‘ok, I lost the first time, that’s fine.’ Then I won it back and I was like ‘oh ok, maybe I can show them that I can keep it longer than 2 weeks.’ I don’t know if it was something with me or do they just want to keep on flipping and flopping. So the last reign I wasn’t used the Monday night and then the following week, Charlotte closed out Raw cutting a promo on her father. I run out and get beat up by Charlotte and then, the following pay-per-view which was an Ironwoman match, I tapped out with one second left and went to overtime and tapped out. You’re telling me that I couldn’t hold on for one more second not to tap out but then I still lose? It’s stuff like that, that kind of really brought down my confidence and I was like ‘maybe there’s something wrong with me where they don’t see me fit as a champion or legit they just want to have all of these different title changes and have people talk about it.” She said would not find out things on the night of or the night before the show.”
A week later, she was booked to drop the Raw Women’s Championship back to Alexa Bliss. Even worse, it looks like they are moving away from the Banks/Bliss feud and putting the focus on Bliss/Nia Jax. For those of you keeping score, Banks is now a 4-time Raw Women’s Champion and each of those title reigns were less than a month. Check out the clip below:
She also talked about who came up with her wrestling name, Ronda Rousey, meeting people at airports, her goal to main event WrestleMania, James Ellsworth helping Carmella win Money In The Bank, her thoughts on the Mae Young Classic, intergender wrestling on the independent scene, and more.
