Kenny Omega on WWE’s treatment of homosexual characters

Kenny Omega is one of the top names in pro wrestling throughout the world but he has yet to land in WWE. At this rate, he might not need to because Being The Elite is quickly becoming a household phrase.

With all of his royalty money rolling in from Bullet Club merchandise from Hot Topic and other avenues of merchandising he’s doing quite well. After having a monumental match with Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12 he was off to his next story where he is set to take on Cody Rhodes at ROH Supercard Of Honor XII.

Omega is also teaming with Kota Ibushi in a rejuvenated version of The Golden Lovers. The Cleaner recently spoke to Yahoo Sports about how the LGBTQA community has embraced his partnership with Ibushi and Kenny said he’s totally good with that.

“Let people think what they want to think. If LGBT people can identify with our story, if they think ‘The Golden Lovers are my team,’ I’m good with that. It’s the story of two wrestlers who shared dreams on their way up, who became fast friends, who are now reuniting at the top of their game.”

He also went on to discuss how WWE and their fans seem to view the LGBTQA community and how there is some obvious room to grow in that area.

“I think it’s important to show in the 21st century that if you’re gay, lesbian, trans, whatever, that you should feel just as welcome to be a wrestling fan as anyone else. You’re welcome in the space. I do get some stupid messages on Twitter from homophobic people and they’re usually WWE fans, which kind of drives things home. In WWE, a gay person is usually portrayed like some sort of comedy act to be mocked and laughed at. The world’s not like that anymore. Everyone should feel welcome to the show.”

As WWE continues to strengthen their stance on social awareness it might be a good idea to look into how they can educate without alienating their fanbase. In the meantime, Kenny Omega is still going strong thrilling packed houses where ever he finds himself.
