WATCH: John Cena on moving on from being WWE regular, teases possible WrestleMania appearance

John Cena made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week where he spoke about his status with WWE.

Cena has taken a step back from WWE to focus on his acting career. The former WWE Champion hasn’t worked a match in a year but has made select appearances on WWE television since then.

“I’m officially moved, I’m not a regular player. WWE’s still my heart, I’m still a part of the family, I still keep in touch with a lot of folks. I try my best to teach and mentor and help where I can, but I’m 42.”

Cena talked about being proud of the effort he’s put forth and wants to make sure that he never cheats the fans with his effort and have them look at him like he’s sticking around because he’s greedy.

Cena then hinted at making an appearance at WrestleMania 36 later this year in Tampa, which is where he lives.

“I always like for them to give me ideas and then me to kind of make it my own. I know that we have a small, large event called WrestleMania around the corner, just so happens to be in Tampa, that’s kind of where I live. I’ll be in the neighborhood. If Suicide Squad should be done, but it’s not like I call someone up and be like, ‘I want to be in WrestleMania.’

Cena pointed out how spots on the WrestleMania card is coveted and there are talent who work for the company all year long to earn those spots.

“I would love to earn one of those. The way you do that is by Vince McMahon, the head of creative, calling you up and going, ‘Hey pal, I’d like you to do this.’ Then I say, ‘Yes sir.’ Then I put my own spin on it.”
