Former WWE/AEW star Parker Boudreaux has made history in Australia, becoming the first-ever OPW Global Champion as part of the launch of a new international wrestling competition built around an authentic Big Gold Belt.
Boudreaux shared the news on Twitter following the April 26 event in Melbourne, Australia.
“And just like that, history is made once again. The BFD becomes the FIRST-EVER OPW Global Champion,” Boudreaux wrote.
The concept behind the Global League Wrestling competition was outlined by belt creator Colin Nguyen, who described it as a six-year project designed to bring an authentic Crumrine Big Gold Belt back into active competition and use it to identify the best wrestler outside of WWE. The belt is intended to travel across multiple continents and promotions, with scheduled stops in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North and South America as part of an open invitational format.
The inaugural event took place at OPW’s Sunday Showcase in Melbourne, with MCW also involved in bringing the concept to the ring. Boudreaux, a former WWE signee who stood out in NXT for his imposing physical presence, captured the inaugural championship and will now serve as the first titleholder as it begins its global journey.
