A Former WWE Star’s Return Is Said To Be Imminent

Baron Corbin’s WWE return is now in the final stages, with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reporting that sources believe he has either signed or is on the verge of signing.

The new update follows the Wrestling Observer Radio report from earlier this week, in which Dave Meltzer said Corbin’s return to WWE had been “heavily talked about” and that Meltzer’s gut connected Corbin to the Danhausen “something bigger” mystery-partner storyline on SmackDown.

Per Fightful Select: “Those that we spoke to in the industry believe that he is either signed by WWE or will be imminently.”

The report adds that Corbin is currently finishing up his commitments elsewhere before making the formal jump to WWE. Sapp specifically named MLW as one of the promotions Corbin is winding down with, where Corbin and Donovan Dijak have been working as The Skyscrapers tag team. Corbin and Dijak won the MLW World Tag Team Championship and held the titles for 329 days, marking Corbin’s first reign with the company.

Corbin last appeared in WWE in October 2024, weeks before he was informed his contract would not be renewed. He has spent the past 18 months rebuilding himself under the Bishop Dyer name across MLW, NWA, GCW, and Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling. He also wrestled an AEW dark match earlier in 2026 alongside Better Together and Martin Stone in an 8-man tag arranged by Billy Gunn and approved by Tony Khan.

Corbin’s WWE career from 2012 to 2024 included a United States Championship reign, an NXT Tag Team Championship reign with Bron Breakker, the 2019 King of the Ring, and the 2017 Money in the Bank briefcase.

The Corbin-Danhausen connection floated by Meltzer would tie into the SmackDown storyline, in which Danhausen has been teasing a mystery partner in recent TV episodes. CM Punk had been the heavy initial fan speculation as the partner.
