Peter Rosenberg says Danhausen is “beside himself” over how his connection to the New York Knicks has taken off, and expects the wrestler to be a major draw at Fanatics Fest in New York. Rosenberg shared the comments on his Cheap Heat radio show on Pro Wrestling Nation 24/7, which was recorded before the Knicks closed out their championship.
Danhausen became a viral figure during the Knicks’ postseason run after fans embraced the idea that he “uncursed” the franchise. Rosenberg, a longtime Knicks fan and WWE personality, said he had recently spoken with Danhausen, who was stunned by the response. “I saw him the other day, he’s like completely sort of beside himself that it’s kind of played out the way that it has,” Rosenberg said.
Rosenberg expected the moment to carry over to Danhausen’s New York appearances. “He is going to be on fire at Fanatics Fest in New York,” Rosenberg said. “I’m sure he’s gonna sign like 90 million autographs that weekend.”
Speaking with the NBA Finals still ongoing, Rosenberg said the bond between Danhausen and the New York fan base appeared durable regardless of how the series ended, and could grow significantly with a title. “I think no matter what, at this point I think he’s going to have a real connection with the New York fan base and wrestling for a long time,” Rosenberg said. “They were already going to love him here, but if they win this championship, Danhausen could have such a special babyface relationship with New York for the rest of eternity.”
Those comments now read as prescient. The Knicks won the 2026 NBA Finals on June 13, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 in the series with a 94-90 Game 5 victory, capturing the franchise’s first championship since 1973. Jalen Brunson was named Finals MVP after a 45-point performance in the closeout game.
Rosenberg also pointed to the run Danhausen had been on as a good-luck charm across New York sports. He said that in the NBA and NHL playoffs combined, Danhausen’s “uncursing” had an overall 16-1 record, joking that the only thing topping it was his own betting record on the Knicks.
A caller during the show suggested that if the Knicks won the title, Danhausen should appear in the championship parade. Rosenberg agreed the moment had become a genuine crossover between wrestling and New York sports culture.
The comments align with a recent Fightful Select report indicating WWE is planning to capitalize on Danhausen’s rising profile in New York, including potential roles at the Madison Square Garden Saturday Night’s Main Event and content and merchandise at Fanatics Fest, with the plans tied to the Knicks’ success.
