You never know what can happen in WWE and when Rey Mysterio returned at the Royal Rumble it certainly caught a lot of people off guard.
The last we had heard from Rey Mysterio was about him flirting with coming into Impact Wrestling to take part in an angle with Alberto El Patron at their next pay-per-view. Those negotiations couldn’t come to any kind of agreement so they were dropped but are said to not be dead.
However, Mysterio came into the Royal Rumble and received a much better reaction from Philly than he did the last time they hosted the Rumble when he came in at #30 and was booed out of the building because he wasn’t Daniel Bryan.
While he was backstage at the Wells Fargo Center, Mr. 6-1-9 had the chance to hang out with a few people he hasn’t seen for a while including The Phenomenal AJ Styles. A match between those two could be epic and a series with the two pro wrestling icons might be even more appealing. Mysterio recently sent out an Instagram message saying “one day” while referring to a match between the two.
It would be pretty stellar to see AJ vs Rey on any card, especially a big WWE event. Maybe this could become a reality if Mysterio and WWE came to some kind of agreement. In the meantime, Mysterio will keep making indy wrestling dates all over the world but he certainly knows where AJ Styles is if he wants to find him.
