Roman Reigns believes CM Punk’s credibility as a straight-shooter has a significant problem, and that problem is the internet.
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take ahead of WrestleMania 42, Reigns took aim at the foundation of Punk’s persona, arguing that the “best in the world” talking points fall apart under scrutiny in a way they simply could not have in 2012 when Punk first made his name as someone who told uncomfortable truths.
“I think if you look at every talking point CM Punk has hit, there’s a contradiction to everything. I’m not making it up. The internet exists. It’s not 2012 anymore. The old CM Punk, that pipebomb crap, it doesn’t line up because you have nerds all over the world picking it apart. They’re just on their computers like ‘No way’ and they’re cutting and copying, click, paste. You can’t lie in this day and age, you have to have continuity,” Reigns said.
Reigns then turned his attention to his own standing within WWE, making a statement about his financial status that he framed as something nobody else in the company can say.
“What you see is what you get with me. I’m the only real superstar that WWE has. I’m the only guy around here that, they pay me like I throw a football. I’m the only guy that can say that. You have these people that come up here and run these slander campaigns because they have an open mic and an open platform. At the end of the day, you can run your mouth all you want, but you gotta back it up. You gotta walk the walk,” Reigns said.
Reigns challenges Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship in the night two main event of WrestleMania 42 on Sunday, April 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
