Shinsuke Nakamura talks getting contract offers from UFC

Shinsuke Nakamura is a worldwide WWE Superstar and his fan base seems to be growing even more as time goes on. But most fans might not realize “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura actually has a rather rich training in MMA under his belt as well. He recently lost a rather unfortunate match against Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam and if you’d like to read all about how that one came to be it’s all in my new book: Planning The Biggest Party Of The Summer 2017.

Nakamura has had fights in the cage before and he didn’t do that bad either. If you have a problem picturing him in an MMA fight, just think about how badly he can hurt people with his knees in a pro wrestling ring, and imagine if he was actually trying to hurt someone. It is rather easy to see how he could do some damage.

While Nakamura was in New Japan Pro Wrestling he actually established a record of 3-1 in MMA competition. It might have been a difficult decision, but Nakamura explained to The Hindustan Times why he decided to decline when the UFC offered him a contract to fight in the Octagon.

“Around 2005 UFC offered me a chance to fight for them” The Artist said. “But at that moment I was under contract with NJPW and I decided to stay in pro wrestling. It was a good opportunity, but I don’t regret my choice.”

Nakamura really shouldn’t regret it either as he was able to use his position in the ring to maintain his reputation as The King Of Strong Style. Shinsuke went on to further explain why we probably won’t be seeing him take another Mixed Martial Arts fight any time soon.

“You have to understand that I am 37-years-old now” Nakamura continued. “It has been a long time since my last proper MMA training and although I still train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, it will take me at least one year to be ready for a proper fight. That is not something I want to do as I am happy in WWE.”

So if you have any fears of Nakamura taking a hiatus from WWE, you probably don’t need to worry about it much. It doesn’t sound like he’s going anywhere any time soon. Besides, he still has Jinder Mahal to take care of.
