Vince McMahon liked it when fellow announcers made fun of his “wig”

This might be a weird ego thing, or it might just be the showman in Vince McMahon. There could be a lot of reasons why Vince McMahon would encourage his fellow announcers back in the day to make fun of him. It drew heat and made the characters seem believable. After all, he was a pretty easy target. But one request Vince threw out there is still puzzling to us.

Vince McMahon would allegedly ask his fellow announcers to make fun of his “wig,” Jim Cornette recently recalled if he remembers McMahon asking him to explicitly make fun of his hairpiece on a recent episode of Jim Cornette’s Drive-Thru.

“I don’t think so, I mean it may have glossed over like ‘hey make fun of my clothes or my hair’ or whatever but not specially. Well, that’s not a wig!” Cornette exclaimed and he is correct. Vince McMahon doesn’t wear a wig and as had his real hair since the beginning (unless you count when President Donald Trump shaved his head at WrestleMania 23).

Maybe McMahon wanted the audience to always be questioning something, but Vince would apparently make calling out “his wig” a thing.

Cornette’s co-host The Great Brian Last recalls “that’s the story though. [Vince] apparently like the heel commentator referring to [his hair] as a wig and then he would get all outraged. Jesse [Ventura] did it and then [Roddy] Piper I think at some point — I think it was Piper, could have been one of the other guys said ‘yeah, right before we were about to go to air Vince said ‘feel free to make fun of the wig.” And it’s not a wig.”

Cornette went on to say how he must have had a different dynamic with Vince on commentary than others. After all, Jim didn’t need assistance in coming up with ways to come at McMahon when the cameras were rolling.
