The question coming out of this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw is how much of the promo between Roman Reigns and John Cena was scripted. Peter Rosenberg seemed to indicate on Twitter that everything was a shoot and thus, not scripted ahead of time.
However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the Cena/Reigns verbal battle was almost completely scripted ahead of time and some of the key wording came from the writing team so the things said on Raw were approved. That doesn’t necessarily mean that what they said to each other was not what they genuinely felt. To me, the comments directed at Reigns came off like a message from Vince McMahon but that’s just my speculation.
Samoa Joe vs. Cena was supposed to take place on the show but that was changed to Reigns/Cena vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson because of Joe’s knee injury. The verbal battle was already scheduled and it was not a result of Joe’s injury.
