All we know about Bobby Fish’s injury and NXT Tag Team Title situation so far

It’s never a good thing when your champion goes down thanks to an unexpected injury. Then again, injuries are never expected and it’s never a good thing in general when anyone is injured. Bobby Fish’s recent injury at an NXT house show might have been a very bad real and it could very well change a lot as NXT rolls into New Orleans.

Thankfully, the card for NXT TakeOver: New Orleans isn’t set in stone yet and the NXT Tag Team Title match is yet to be booked. Because with Fish out of action they might be forced to call an audible. It certainly didn’t sound hopeful that Bobby Fish’s injury would be something he’d be able to wrestle on by Wednesday’s next set of television tapings when Dave Meltzer explained all he knew about Fish’s current injury status on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“Bobby Fish’s knee so this would have been […] in Indianapolis Bobby Fish blew out his knee. It sounded bad. I haven’t heard an update, obviously, he’s half of the tag team champions and NXT has TV [tapings] on Wednesday and I would say it’s highly unlikely that he’s gonna be wrestling by Wednesday.”

“Whether [Fish] can wrestle on TakeOver, I mean if the injury is as bad as it seemed that it was and I was led to believe yesterday then he isn’t gonna be wrestling TakeOver. But again, today was the day he was gonna be fully diagnosed and I haven’t heard anything about that. But if he’s not wrestling at TakeOver they have to do something with the tag team titles which would be … I mean your choices are have the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic be your champions or have the winners of that tournament face Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole to determine the new champions. Those seem to be obvious options there could be something else as well. So that will probably be addressed on the first show they tape on Wednesday.”

It would be great for Bobby Fish to miraculously recuperate and get back to action in time to defend the NXT Tag Team Titles. But it might be a good idea for those backstage in NXT to get ready to call an audible on the Road To NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.
