When Vince McMahon was running WWE creative, he had a list of banned words that wrestlers and on-air talent couldn’t use.
Last August after Triple H took over creative once McMahon resigned from his WWE duties, it was reported that two terms that had been banned by McMahon were cleared to be used – “wrestling” and “wrestler.”
After McMahon returned to the company in January as the Executive Chairman of the WWE Board of Directors, there had been speculation as to when he would take back over creative. Fans and talent uneasy about this possibility had another scare when McMahon was backstage at a recent WWE Raw event.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there was a WWE star who had to redo a pre-taped interview for Monday’s Raw because they said wrestling.
Meltzer wrote, “There was a pre-tape interview on the 3/20 Raw where somebody used the term “wrestling” and they had to redo.”
Meltzer pointed out that Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes used the term pro wrestlers during their promo segment on this same show to build up to their WrestleMania match.
