Michael Elgin took to Twitter on Sunday to issue a statement. For those of you not following the story, you can click here to read more on the situation. Read Elgin’s statement below:
“I want to apologize first for the delay in releasing this statement. I needed to take a hard look inside and focus on spending time with my family before I could find the right words to share with you, and I’m sorry for any concerns that’s raised.
I’ve made mistakes in my life, some not in the public eye and a few within it. We must learn from these moments. I’ve learned a lot, and I have to take responsibility for my actions.
In 2017 I was presented with a situation involving allegations of sexual impropriety involving two individuals. To be honest I really didn’t know how to deal with it as I have never had to deal with such an issue before. These types of accusations need to be taken seriously, and I encouraged the woman to report it to the proper authorities herself. Within these conversations, I had about this situation I was rude and very inconsiderate of people’s feelings. I’m truly sorry to the woman for acting that way.
Moving forward I grew to have a friendship with this woman and some of our conversations were inappropriate given I am a married man. I saw this woman two times outside of wrestling events, this was wrong and I can’t express my regret enough. Our conversations should never have crossed that line and I will never be able to apologize enough for that. This was a poor way to treat my own family and her. When I realized how wrong it was I decided to stop the conversations immediately. My behavior is something I think about every night and it didn’t reflect the main I am or that I want to be. I’ve always prided myself in being respectful to everyone and in this instance I did not show that respect and I will forever regret that.
Respectfully,
Michael Elgin.”

The woman that was mentioned in the statement posted the following:
I woke up to a text from Elgin. A formulaic, pre-typed apology, written by someone other than him. An apology that completely misses the point once again.
There is no believing any feigned sincerity he puts forth again.
And so I'll spend the rest of my day shaking and sobbing.
