2006 Vince McMahon sexual assault allegation resurfaces in mainstream media following XFL announcement

Vince McMahon is making headlines but it’s not because of the news of the relaunch of the XFL. Well, it’s indirectly tied to that because mainstream media outlets, including the New York Daily News and The Daily Beast, have dug up an 11-year old story on Vince McMahon being accused of sexual assault. Presumably, the story is being brought to light because of McMahon’s comments about players with a criminal history not being allowed to play in the XFL.

The alleged incident happened in 2006 when a young woman walked into a Papa John’s to ask for help. She was working part-time at a tanning salon in the same strip mall where she says that a man just tried to “attack and rape her.” The man was later identified as Vince McMahon.

Boca Raton police said at the time that they had enough evidence to file a misdemeanor simple battery arrest warrant against McMahon because the woman said that McMahon groped her and was forcibly trying to kiss her.

The woman says that before McMahon got in the tanning bed, he asked her to take a photo of him so he could send the photo to his girlfriend in New York. She handed the phone back to him and she says that McMahon showed her nude and semi-nude photos of himself. She says that she asked him to stop because it was inappropriate. McMahon tanned for 20 minutes and then chatted with the salon attendant and another customer after he was done. The woman says that she went to clean the tanning bed but McMahon followed her into the room and shut the door behind him. The woman said that McMahon grabbed her and tried to kiss her but she put both of her hands on his chest and tried to push him away. McMahon, she says, continued to grab her and touched her waist and butt and tried to lift up her button-down shirt while rubbing her breasts with the back side of his arms. The woman said that McMahon got her shirt a few inches above her waist but she was able to push him off and then got out of the tanning room. She says that McMahon told her “that he was only trying to have some fun.”

She said that McMahon left the salon and got into his Hummer and waited for 20 minutes. That is when she broke down and walked over to Papa John’s to get help. She also called the tanning salon manager at the time and said that an “older gentlemen followed me into a room and tried to kiss me.” The tanning salon manager, Caroline Clear, made her way to the salon and saw a man (presumably McMahon) sitting in a black Hummer in the parking lot and a Papa John’s employee in the salon. McMahon, through his attorney, denied any wrongdoing.

Some, but not all, of the allegations were covered at the time but the story faded away because McMahon was never charged because prosecutors cited lack of evidence. The Daily Beast reached out to McMahon for comment but there was no response.

This week, when McMahon announced plans to relaunch the XFL said that “the quality of the human being is very important. Just as important as the quality of the player.” He added, “you want someone who does not have any criminality whatsoever associated with them. Even if you have a DUI, you will not play in the XFL.”

I would imagine that more stories from McMahon’s past will come to light as we get closer to the launch of the league.
