The family of Marty Jannetty has confirmed that the former WWE wrestler underwent a below-the-knee amputation on April 1, 2026, with Jannetty’s wife, Addie, issuing an official statement on Facebook to address the speculation that has built around his health in recent days.
The statement followed several days of online discussion sparked by former wrestler Eddy Mansfield’s appearance on the Monte & The Pharaoh podcast, where Mansfield revealed that his longtime friend Jannetty had recently had his foot amputated. A photograph of Jannetty’s leg following the procedure has been circulating online in the days since.
Addie Jannetty issued the family’s official response on Facebook.
“The Jannetty family is issuing this statement to address the recent circulation of private medical information and photographs involving Marty Jannetty. Over the past year, we have chosen to keep Marty’s health matters private, and we stand firmly by that decision. However, due to widespread speculation, unauthorized posts, and ongoing commentary across social media and wrestling news outlets, we feel it is necessary to provide accurate information.”
She confirmed the specific procedure and timeline.
“Marty recently underwent a below-the-knee amputation. The photograph currently being shared online is authentic. It is not AI-generated, altered, or manipulated in any way. It was taken by his wife to document his medical journey. The procedure was performed on April 1, 2026, by Dr. Leland McCluskey, who successfully removed all infected bone. The surgery went as expected, and Marty is now focusing on recovery, pain management, and long-term healing.”
Jannetty had previously revealed on Facebook in January 2024 that doctors had told him he would need to undergo a leg amputation. The April 1 procedure represents the carrying out of that long-known medical recommendation.
Eddy Mansfield, who originally shared the news publicly, used the podcast appearance to also call out WWE for not assisting Jannetty with his health issues over the years. Mansfield specifically pointed to Jannetty’s ankle problems as a direct consequence of his in-ring work for WWE and said the company should be doing more for one of its 1980s and 1990s stars. Mansfield also said Jannetty should be in the WWE Hall of Fame and that Shawn Michaels, his long-time tag team partner, should be the one to induct him.
“He should be in the Hall of Fame. Without a shadow of a doubt, he should be. And Shawn Michaels should be the guy who’s introducing him into the Hall of Fame. How come he hadn’t done that?”
Jannetty was a foundational member of The Rockers tag team with Shawn Michaels across the late 1980s and early 1990s, and is widely considered one of the most influential tag-team workers of the era. He held the AWA World Tag Team Championship with Michaels and held the WWE Intercontinental Championship as a singles wrestler in 1993, briefly holding it while Michaels was on a kayfabe suspension.
