I got to meet Bret Hart during WrestleMania weekend, but he wasn’t in Las Vegas. I’m gonna tell you everything about what it was like, what I said to Bret, and what Bret said back to me. It’s a very interesting experience. If you don’t want to read all of this, just scroll down and skip to the video.
Let’s Get This Out of the Way First
I hear all this stuff online, and it’s not the majority of fans, but a small minority of fans that talk about Bret being bitter, and all he does is trash Goldberg and blah, blah, blah. Look, man, if you’re gonna do a podcast interview with Bret Hart, if you’re gonna show up at a signing and record Bret, and you’re gonna ask him about Goldberg or Montreal or Vince or whatever, he’s gonna give you an answer. Bret’s not going out of his way to talk about this stuff. It’s people that come up to him, and a lot of times it’s people at a signing with a camera in their hand looking for that answer, so they can take that video and get engagement on whatever platform they’re posting it on.
But I’m just gonna say, Bret was great. He interacts with everybody. The interactions can’t go on for longer because the lines are long and there’s a certain block of time. Bret was there from, I believe, 2:30 to maybe 5 something, and I got there early. I got the VIP, skipped the line. Recommended if you can get it, if it’s available, because you have to wait so long in line. There were long lines to see Bret on WrestleMania Saturday in Wellington, Florida. So it was cool to see that. Was cool to see the fans come out and support Bret.
Why Bret Is the Best Ever to Me
I just gotta say, very, very pleasant. By the way, I also have to say this. For me, Bret’s the best ever. Everybody’s got their favorites, but Bret’s always been real, and that’s something I appreciate about him. His wrestling style, the way he wrestled, it was always solid. Never hurt anybody, as he’s talked about in the past. But there’s just always something real about Bret that I’ve always liked. Just the way he talks to people. When he was active in the ring, the greatest ever.
What Happened When I Went Up to Bret
A guy held the phone for me and took some pictures. I was able to take some video beforehand. He interacted with an older lady before me, took his time with her. She was great. And then it was my turn.
I basically went up, shook his hand, and told him, “Hey, Bret, I’ve been watching some Stampede from like the late 50s and early 60s.” I saw some stuff with his dad on there, and I mentioned Bulldog Brower, and I mentioned how hard those rings were. His eyes just lit up when I told him that I’m a fan of Stu Hart, and Stu Hart is the man. So he loved hearing that.
I also told him that I plan on going to his bar in Calgary. That’s when he said, “Well, if you go, make sure you go on a Thursday, because that’s when I’ll be there. Usually there on Thursdays.”
Hitman’s Bar in Calgary Is on My List
So I’m gonna be making that trip sometime, hopefully in the next few months. Gonna be making that trip up there, checking out Hitman’s Bar in Calgary. From what I’ve heard, the food’s good. Pictures I’ve seen, it’s really nice. Lots of cool memorabilia, lot of cool stuff from his career is there. Maybe you get lucky and you see him. Maybe you can chat with the Hitman for a little bit. But anyways, definitely recommend it.
Should You Go to a Bret Hart Signing?
If you’re ever on the fence about going to a Bret Hart signing, if you can go, I definitely recommend it. Really cool experience. The experience from Palm Beach Autographs was great. They had a will call there. Everything was nice and organized. You got a physical ticket. Once you’re there, after you scan your ticket, everything’s nice and neat. Lots of room for the people in line. Nice and cool. Really, really good experience. So I recommend that company a lot if you ever see them doing an autograph signing. I’m not sure where else they’re gonna be, but I think they mentioned they’re gonna be doing something in Tampa. I think it’s the Steiners. But yeah, highly recommend it.
The Dude Really Loves His Fans
Let me tell you another thing. Bret really does, the dude really loves his fans. Saw fans show up with belts. Saw fans show up with all kinds of stuff, and he signed all of that stuff. So again, when you ever hear that stuff online about Bret’s bitter and Bret this and Bret that, nah, dude’s living his life. His wife was there, and he seemed as happy as could be.
So just wanted to get that out there. I hate that narrative of Bret being this bitter guy who hates everybody. It’s like, no man, not true.
And I’ll say this. I’m sure you got someone in your life that if someone brought their name up, you wouldn’t want to say good things about them either. So anybody that interviews Bret or gets a chance to talk to him, I would say probably don’t put a camera in front of him and ask him about certain things that are just gonna make him look bad. Because if you’re a real, true Bret Hart fan, you wouldn’t be doing that stuff.
So that’s it. Those are my thoughts. Let me know your thoughts. Have you met Bret Hart before at an autograph signing? Or if you’ve gone to any autograph signing, what was your experience? That was my first one. So if you guys got any tips for future ones, let me know. Give me your thoughts on everything. Watch the video below and leave your comments.
