Sheamus Responds To Free Agency: ‘All Challengers Welcome’

Sheamus has responded to becoming a free agent with a message on X: “all challengers welcome.” His WWE contract expired on October 1, ending a run with the company that began in 2006.

Fightful Select reported his free agency on Friday. Farrelly, who now goes by S. Farrelly, a shortened form of his real name, Stephen Farrelly, responded on X: “all challengers welcome – s. farrelly 🐺”

Fightful Select reported in July that Farrelly would leave WWE after turning down a restructured contract extension. On July 10, he changed his social media name to S. Farrelly and posted a farewell to WWE. WWE has since moved him to the alumni section of its website.

Farrelly has not wrestled since the November 17, 2025 edition of Raw, where he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day. He underwent shoulder surgery in December 2025.

During his WWE run, Farrelly won the WWE Championship three times, the World Heavyweight Championship once, the United States Championship three times, and tag team gold five times. He also won the 2010 King of the Ring, the 2012 Royal Rumble and the 2015 Money in the Bank briefcase. He never held the Intercontinental Championship.

Fightful also reported that AEW was expected to have interest in Farrelly, though no discussions had taken place between the two sides.

Analysis

Farrelly has a lot of friends in AEW. Claudio Castagnoli, his partner in The Bar, is there, and so is Jon Moxley. He has a reputation as one of the nicest people in the business and gets along with everyone, which matters in a locker room that has already told Fightful it would welcome him. It would not surprise me if he ends up in AEW.

Because his non-compete has run out, he can appear anywhere as soon as he agrees to it. That could be AEW Collision tonight, Dynamite on Wednesday, or TNA, if TNA has the budget for a full deal or even one or two appearances.

In AEW, the matches write themselves. Farrelly against Kyle Fletcher. Farrelly against Kenny Omega. Castagnoli and Farrelly back together as a team against the Young Bucks, FTR, or Adam Copeland and Christian Cage. The combinations go on from there.
