Whether Brock Lesnar is truly done with WWE remains one of the most debated questions coming out of WrestleMania 42 weekend, and the answer appears to depend on who you ask within the company.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, there is a strong belief within WWE that Lesnar was genuinely saying goodbye when he left his gloves and boots in the ring following his loss to Oba Femi on night two of WrestleMania 42. However, there are others who believe he will have one more match at SummerSlam, with natural speculation pointing to the event given Lesnar’s deep roots in Minneapolis where the show is expected to take place. At least one WWE contact was reported to be hoping Lesnar would be on the SummerSlam card, though the same contact acknowledged it is not a definite.
The split opinion within WWE aligns with reporting from multiple outlets in the days following WrestleMania. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the belief among people within WWE is that Lesnar has not actually retired, though he was careful to note the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
“I will only say that based on people in WWE, they believe he’s not retiring yet, although he is retiring at some point probably this year. I don’t know that anyone knows. This might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet like the Seth Rollins thing. A couple of people have mentioned it, that’s the belief. We’ll see. I’m not like saying that this is for sure because I don’t know if anyone knows for sure,” Meltzer said.
Bodyslam separately reported that only a small number of people within WWE knew in advance that Lesnar would leave his boots and gloves in the ring. Many inside the company had operated under the assumption that his actual retirement would come later this year at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, making the WrestleMania moment a surprise internally as well as publicly.
Meltzer also reported that the program between Lesnar and Femi was originally planned as a multi-match feud before being changed weeks ago into a one-and-done affair, with Femi defeating Lesnar in four minutes at WrestleMania 42.
