Cody Rhodes Says He Signed His Last Contract And Has About Six Or Seven Years Left In WWE

Cody Rhodes says the WWE contract he just signed is his last, and that he has about six or seven more years left with the company. "I just know that I don't want to overstay my welcome," he said.

Cody Rhodes says the WWE contract he just signed is his last, and that he expects to wrestle for the company for about six or seven more years.

Chris Van Vliet asked Rhodes on Insight whether he has a number in mind for how much longer he wants to wrestle.

“I just signed my last contract,” Rhodes said. “That’s going to go for a while, and if I’m able to do what I’ve been able to do, because I would love this year not to be just one movie, but perhaps two movies, and I’d love to kind of be able to share that at some point, get that going and be in that.”

“With all that said, my time with WWE could go. I mean, just to give you a real answer here and not politic around you, probably โ€ฆ seven more years, six, seven,” he continued.

Rhodes then acknowledged the “6-7” meme in his own answer.

“I had to have Carmelo Hayes explained to me what that was, and I still didn’t get it. Yeah, six, seven years, I’d say so,” Rhodes said. “And I don’t want to say that in a final, like a final sense. I just know that I don’t want to overstay my welcome.”

Van Vliet noted that AJ Styles told him he did not want to wrestle into his 50s. Rhodes said he feels the same way.

“Well, definitely don’t want to wrestle into my 50s. No shame to anyone who wrestles in their 50s. I don’t want to overstay my welcome,” Rhodes said. “I have shed so much of my skin for the industry, but I have also been given so so so much. I think there’s a point where you have to stop taking. I’m not there, but there’s a point, and I think that’s in that time frame, a point where you just have to stop taking.”

Rhodes, 41, first said earlier this month on Flagrant that he had re-signed with WWE and will end his career there. He has not given the length of the deal. He once said he would stop wrestling at 40, and in June he floated a five-year term for his next contract on The Ariel Helwani Show.

Rhodes plays Guile in Street Fighter, which opened No. 1 at the box office last weekend. He is currently feuding with Randy Orton on SmackDown.
