Mike Mondo Recalls Vince McMahon’s Rib On Gerald Brisco: ‘Proceeds To Vomit Everywhere’

Mike Mondo says a slop-covered Vince McMahon jumped on Gerald Brisco after a 2006 DX segment, and shared Spirit Squad stories about Shawn Michaels, Jimmy Wang Yang and Jim Cornette.

Mike Mondo says Vince McMahon pulled a rib on Gerald Brisco after one of the most memorable Spirit Squad segments of 2006, and it ended with Brisco throwing up backstage.

Mondo, who was Mikey in The Spirit Squad, told the story on Rewind Recap Relive with host Jonah, when Jonah asked about the segment where D-Generation X dumped a pile of muck on Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and The Spirit Squad on the entrance stage.

“It was everything mixed together. It was dog food. It was corn. It was Snickers bars. It was syrup,” Mondo said.

“Gerald Brisco actually, he gets really nauseous with disgusting things,” Mondo said. “Gerald Brisco and Vince were like best friends. So as a rib, when we went back through the curtain, Vince is covered in all this stuff, and he just jumps over the Gorilla table onto Jerry Brisco, and Jerry Brisco just proceeds to vomit everywhere.”

“Jerry Brisco wasn’t too happy about that. Vince is just laughing. ‘Oh, got you, man! Got you, big man,'” Mondo added.

Jimmy Wang Yang tested the Spirit Squad’s finisher before Shawn Michaels

Mondo said Kenny came up with the group’s High Spirits finisher, where all five members grabbed a limb and tossed an opponent into the air. Before the group did it to Shawn Michaels through a table on pay-per-view, Michaels wanted to see it first.

“Shawn wanted to see how this move was going to go, so we actually did a little trial run on Jimmy Wang Yang, which actually, kudos to him, I think got rehired after that,” Mondo said.

Mondo called Michaels “the best in-ring performer I’ve ever been in the ring with,” and said Michaels warned the group they had to look credible against him and Triple H.

“He even told me, if we’re not that credible up to that level, he’s got no problem turning all five of our heads and kick, kick, kick, kick at the start of the bell,” Mondo said. “He smartened us up.”

The Spirit Squad won the World Tag Team Championship in April 2006 and lost the titles to Ric Flair and Roddy Piper at Cyber Sunday that November. Mondo has previously spoken about how the group came together.

Mike Mondo on Jim Cornette

Mondo credited Jim Cornette, who named him in Ohio Valley Wrestling, for several breaks in his career.

“Jim is also responsible for getting me in Ring of Honor in 2011,” Mondo said. “I know for a fact that he was pushing to get me a job with WWE for a long time.”

Because Cornette doesn’t fly, Mondo said he rode with him to Ring of Honor shows in Chicago and Dayton.

“I got all that knowledge just riding in the car with him. He taught me how to write TV,” Mondo said. “He also gave me the knowledge of every single Wendy’s that was good, bad.”

Mike Mondo wants the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship

Mondo, a former NWA National Heavyweight Champion, said his goal is the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, which is held by “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason.

“One box that I haven’t checked off yet is to be a world champion for a major company, and that’s my goal, is to be the NWA World Heavyweight Champion,” Mondo said.

Mondo said he and Mason had a singles match at Riot Fest and that he hopes to bring it to NWA Powerrr.

“There’s Mike Mondo, and then there’s everybody else, and as much as Thrillbilly’s doing a good job, he’s got to know that he’s in that category of everybody else when he steps in the ring with me,” Mondo said.

NWA Powerrr airs on Comet, and past episodes stream on Tubi. Mondo is on X as @TheMikeMondo.
