Recent talk at WWE TV points to 2027 as Rey Mysterio’s last year as an active wrestler, according to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select.
A source told WrestleVotes they had no direct knowledge of when or where an official retirement would take place. The same source said WWE has discussed ideas for how to present Mysterio’s farewell.
There is also a feeling among many in the company that Mysterio will stay involved after he stops wrestling, working with the next generation of talent in WWE and AAA. The report compared it to AJ Styles, who retired at the Royal Rumble in January after losing to Gunther.
WWE has not announced any retirement plans for Mysterio.
Mysterio, 51, said in September that he would “most definitely” see himself sticking around to help younger talent once he stops competing. “We all know eventually my day is gonna come where, where I’m gonna tap out,” he told The Sun. He also said he would like his son, Dominik Mysterio, to be the one who retires him, and that he hopes to share the ring with Dominik and his daughter, Aalyah, before he does.
Mysterio challenged for the Intercontinental Championship on Monday’s Raw in a triple threat with champion Chad Gable and Dragon Lee. Gable retained by pinning Mysterio.
Mysterio is a WWE Hall of Famer and three-time WWE world champion.
