Sheamus says he hasn’t left wrestling behind. He is just on a long vacation.
Sheamus spoke with Telemundo Deportes on Saturday at the Bundesliga Haus in Chicago, a watch party for Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich. When the interviewer referred to him as an “ex-luchador,” Sheamus stopped him.
“Did you say ex-luchador? I’m just taking time off. I’m just chilling, I’m just relaxing. I’m on vacation. A long vacation,” Sheamus said.
The Dortmund fan also talked about how his support for the club began and predicted a Dortmund win at Bayern’s Allianz Arena.
Sheamus became a free agent on October 1 when his WWE contract expired, and he responded on X at the time, “all challengers welcome.” He has been going by his real name, Stephen Farrelly, since confirming his WWE departure in July, and he rebranded his YouTube channel to match.
Sheamus on leaving WWE
Sheamus addressed his exit in July in an interview with Adam’s Apple, saying he could not get into why it happened.
“Some circumstances came up. I can’t really talk about it, obviously,” Sheamus said.
He said he was using the time off to catch up with family in Ireland.
“19 years is a long time and a good crack, and I left Ireland in ’07,” he said. “I haven’t really had the luxury to go home and see my family and see my friends.”
“Enjoying my workouts. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life,” he added. “I’m in a really good place.”
AEW and TNA interest in Sheamus
Veteran wrestlers in AEW have pushed for the company to sign Sheamus, Fightful Select reported in early October, though he was not signed and there had not been substantial talks. Fightful Select reported last week that there is no “huge urgency” in AEW to bring him in, and that Claudio Castagnoli and Adam Copeland have made it clear they would like to see him there.
TNA also reached out to Sheamus about appearing at Bound for Glory on October 11, according to Fightful Select. He had not committed to the booking as of two weeks before the show, and Fightful noted that his rate and Max Caster’s, who ended up answering Moose’s open challenge, are “vastly different.”
Sheamus spent 19 years with WWE. He is a three-time WWE Champion and one-time World Heavyweight Champion, a three-time United States Champion, a Grand Slam Champion, and the winner of the 2010 King of the Ring, the 2012 Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank in 2015.
