WWE has adjusted creative plans for Blake Monroe following a series of unexpected events on the NXT brand. Monroe lost the NXT Women’s North American Championship to Thea Hail on December 16 after an unplanned, legitimate botched finish. While Monroe was originally booked to retain the title, she failed to get her shoulder up in time during a pinfall, resulting in Hail becoming the new champion by accident.
A rematch for the gold was set for NXT New Year’s Evil on January 6 in Orlando, Florida. However, the bout never officially started as Monroe jumped Hail from behind with a steel chair during her entrance. Monroe also put the champion through a ringside barricade before General Manager Ava intervened. Ava subsequently banned Monroe from the building for the night, and Hail went on to lose the title in an open challenge to Izzi Dame.
Reports from Fightful Select indicate that discussions about a potential call-up for Blake Monroe and Jacy Jayne to the main roster were held. However, sources confirm to Bodyslam that a move to the main roster is not expected for Blake at this time. Instead, new plans are in place for Monroe as NXT heads toward Stand & Deliver in Las Vegas on April 11.
In the weekly Fightful Debunkathon, it was noted also noted that Jayne and Monroe aren’t expected to be called up imminently. NXT Stand & Deliver is expected to be a major stop for the brand during WrestleMania 42 weekend. The event will take place at the Allegiant Stadium or a surrounding venue in Las Vegas.
