Tiffany Stratton winning the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match was always the long-term plan in WWE, but one result on the way there was changed at the last minute.
Fightful Select reported that the plan had always been for Stratton to win the briefcase and eventually emerge as a contender for Chelsea Green’s WWE Women’s Championship. The plan that changed was the six-woman tag on the October 9 SmackDown in Lafayette, Louisiana, where Stratton, Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne and Lash Legend beat Lola Vice, Roxanne Perez and Sol Ruca.
“We’re told that as of that day, the result was going to be the opposite,” Fightful’s report read. “The women involved in the Money in the Bank ladder match had learned the night before (Thursday) that Stratton would be winning.”
All six women in the six-woman tag were in the ladder match the next night. Legend pinned Ruca for the win, then turned on her partners and hit Stratton with the Lash Extension. Stratton won the briefcase the following night at Money in the Bank in New Orleans, pulling it down after fighting off Legend on top of a ladder.
Green said on the October 9 SmackDown that she was “manifesting a Tiffy win.” Since Money in the Bank, Stratton and Green have stayed friends, and Stratton has gone after Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan instead. The Judgment Day stopped Stratton from cashing in on Morgan on SmackDown, and Morgan pinned Green in a six-woman tag on the November 2 Raw in Brooklyn.
Green faces Morgan in a champion vs. champion match at Crown Jewel today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Crown Jewel starts at noon ET and streams on the ESPN app with an ESPN Unlimited plan in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
