The WWF Intercontinental Championship belt that Ricky Steamboat won from Randy Savage at WrestleMania III sold for $716,750 at Heritage Auctions on Saturday, October 24.
The final price includes Heritage’s 22 percent buyer’s premium on a winning bid of $587,500. It is the highest price ever paid for a wrestling championship belt at auction.
Conrad Thompson, who owned the belt, wrote on X, “We set a record! Thank you!”

The previous record for a belt was $414,800 for Hulk Hogan’s WWF Championship belt, photo-matched to WrestleMania 2, which sold at Heritage on August 21. The overall record for wrestling memorabilia still belongs to Hogan’s boots from the first WrestleMania, which sold for $1,037,000 at Heritage earlier this year. They were the first wrestling item to sell for more than $1 million.
Heritage’s listing says the belt was used from 1985 to 1988 and was held by four WWE Hall of Famers: Tito Santana, Savage, Steamboat and The Honky Tonk Man. The belt has the red WWF logo and measures 48.5 inches end to end.
Savage won the title from Santana in February 1986 and held it for more than a year. Steamboat beat him for it on March 29, 1987, at WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. The Honky Tonk Man won the title from Steamboat in June 1987.
Thompson has said he got the belt in a 2020 trade with Vince McMahon. After Pat Patterson, the first Intercontinental Champion, died that year, McMahon wanted the original Intercontinental Championship belt that Patterson held, which Thompson owned, and Thompson offered to trade it for the WrestleMania III belt. Thompson hosts podcasts including 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff and Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard.
