Paul Wight says he has had 11 surgeries in the past seven years, but he has not stepped away from wrestling.

Scott Johnson asked the AEW commentator how he is doing physically on News4JAX’s Going Ringside, saying Wight had stepped away from wrestling. Wight corrected him.

“Yeah, I haven’t stepped away. I’ve just, I mean, dude, I’ve had 11 surgeries in the past seven years. Like both knees, both hips. I’m not in any pain or nothing like that. I’m working on losing weight and just getting my stuff together. It’s a little bit harder at 54,” Wight said.

Wight said he does not want to come back before he is ready.

“The biggest thing for me is I don’t want to go out there and be like Old Yeller like, ‘Oh god, that’s really bad. Please shoot it,'” he said. “You know, so we’re working on, I am diligently working on a lot of stuff. Fixing a lot of little things, just years of wear and tear and getting everything tight and right just to have some fun.”

Wight signed with AEW in February 2021 and works as a commentator on Collision. He teased an in-ring appearance at Dynamite: Beach Break in July.

AEW is in Jacksonville, Florida, this Wednesday, November 4, for Dynamite: Blood and Guts at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The show airs at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on TBS and HBO Max.

We wish Paul Wight the best in his recovery.
