Drew McIntyre says WWE is still his first love, even as his acting career keeps growing.
The former WWE Champion was asked on CNN-News18’s Breakfast Club what he has enjoyed most so far: Hollywood, micro dramas or WWE. He picked WWE.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s WWE. It’s my first love. It’s my most dysfunctional relationship, my longest marriage, and we’ll be together as long as we can be together,” McIntyre said.
He said Batista, who he called a mentor, feels the same way.
“Even Batista says the same, like he wishes he could still be wrestling in front of the large crowds, cuz there’s nothing like the live WWE audience, especially the Indian fans, just how passionate and how much they get into the product,” McIntyre said. “And, you know, when you get a good scene and it’s like cut, and everyone like, good job, move on, and they just leave, and you’re standing there like, wish everybody was clapping and cheering or something. But that’s what I miss. Like, there’s nothing like the WWE fans.”
Drew McIntyre on returning to WWE
McIntyre said earlier in the interview that he is not chasing Hollywood.
“Hollywood came to Drew McIntyre, and we’re taking it as it comes. I will be back to WWE. You know, WWE is my home, and I appreciate Nick Khan and Triple H, you know, letting me go out and explore this world, and hopefully it’s beneficial to both worlds,” he said. “But when the time is right, Hollywood Drew will be back. But the time’s not right quite yet.”
McIntyre said Batista got him into acting by offering him a role as a hitman in The Killer’s Game.
“I always wanted to be a wrestler since I was 5 years old for WWE. I got signed when I was 21, straight from university. That’s all I’ve ever done,” McIntyre said. “To say it was in the cards and in my mind is just not the case. Hollywood Drew was born organically.”
McIntyre plays Angus MacLeod in the Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill, and he filmed The Last Druid with Russell Crowe. He also stars in Agent of Shadows, WWE’s first micro drama with ReelShort, which premiered October 23.
He has not wrestled since April 18, when he lost to Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match on Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. He said last month that he will be back “when I decide.” WWE has not announced a return date.
