Paul Wight says he could see AEW holding one of its main pay-per-views at Jacksonville’s renovated NFL stadium.
Scott Johnson asked the AEW commentator on News4JAX’s Going Ringside whether AEW would want to use the stadium once construction is finished.
“Oh, I would see 100%. As our product continues to grow, I could definitely see one of our main pay-per-views being in that venue. 100%,” Wight said. “I’m pretty sure we get a pretty good deal on the rent for the place.”
The Jacksonville Jaguars are owned by Shad Khan, the father of AEW President Tony Khan. EverBank Stadium is in the middle of its “Stadium of the Future” renovation, which the Jaguars say is targeted for completion in August 2028. AEW ran its pandemic-era shows at Daily’s Place, the amphitheater attached to the stadium, in 2020 and 2021.
Wight led the “Duuuval” chant at a recent Jaguars home game. He said a friend who works for the team set it up.
“It was very cool. Yeah, it was a good experience. You got to love the Jacksonville fans, their support of the team, and the team’s doing great,” Wight said.
He said appearances like that help AEW’s talent.
“It’s great opportunity for the talent. I mean, you know, as a talent, you want as much exposure as you can doing different things outside the venue to try to bring awareness to your brand and to your product,” Wight said. “It’s also fun. You know, there’s a lot of AEW fans who were in the crowd yesterday.”
AEW is in Jacksonville this Wednesday, November 4, for Dynamite: Blood and Guts at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The men’s Blood and Guts match is Darby Allin, Steven Borden, Adam Copeland, Will Ospreay and The Young Bucks against the Don Callis Family’s Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, Kevin Knight, Wardlow, Mark Davis and Jake Doyle. The women’s Blood and Guts match is the Triangle of Madness and Divine Dominion against the Brawling Birds, Wrathlander and Willow Nightingale.
The show airs at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on TBS and HBO Max.
